The Hawaii Chess Federation Announces the Opening of Registration for the 2024 Hawaii Open

Honolulu, HI, July 30, 2024 – The Hawaii Chess Federation (HCF) is thrilled to announce that registration is now open for the 2024 Hawaii Open. This annual event, produced in collaboration with the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and The Arts, will be held at the Capitol Modern, part of The Hawaii State Art Museum. The competition will take place over three days during Labor Day weekend and is open to the public for spectating throughout the tournament.

This year marks a significant milestone as it will be the first time the Hawaii Open is held in an art museum, emphasizing the performances of the players as a form of live art. Chess enthusiasts and the general public are invited to witness the event in this unique setting. Along with the chess being performed, there will be additional programming throughout the Museum

The Hawaii Chess Federation is offering a guaranteed prize purse of $5,000, which may increase depending on the number of registrations. This generous prize pool underscores the HCF’s commitment to supporting and promoting the chess community in Hawaii.

    Dates: August 31 – September 2, 2024

    Location: The Capitol Modern (The Hawaii State Art Museum), 250 South Hotel St., Honolulu

The 2024 Hawaii Open is open to all USCF (United States Chess Federation) members in good standing. The tournament will feature three sections to accommodate players of all skill levels, ensuring an inclusive and competitive experience for everyone. Additionally, a Blitz Chess tournament will be held on the afternoon of Monday, September 2nd, providing fast-paced chess action.
